La Tzoumaz is a quiet little village, coming to life in winter because of its great connection to Verbier and the Quatre Vallees ski region and in summer because the endless possibilities for sportive activities, the clear mountain air and the sheer beauty of the landscape.
It has a compact village center, with hundreds of chalets dispersed around it. Within walking distance you will find six or seven restaurants, a few bars, a swimming pool, ice skating rink, the supermarket (Proxi) with a very good bakery, ATM, and a few (ski-) shops.
La Tzoumaz dates back a long time as a place where the famous Swiss cows got adjusted to the height twice a year: in spring, the cows would spend three weeks in La Tzoumaz, coming from the valley where they spent the winter, before going to the higher pastures in the mountains. In autumn they would spend another three weeks, before going down to the valley for the winter. The many old barns in the village, some of which have become chalets, still remind of that era.
